addendum

In reviewing yesterday's post, I discovered that Bucky indicated that the "Senators and Canadiens have playoff talent."

First off, shenanigans for the overwhelmingly qualified line. Saying they have playoff talent isn't the same as saying they're playoff teams. Wuss, if you're going to tear apart the Sabres front office at least grow a pair in terms of the rest of your column.

But more importantly, let's look at last year's standings:

Montreal: 41-30-11 (93 points), 249 goals for, 247 goals against
Buffalo: 41-32-9 (91 points), 250 goals for, 234 goals against
Ottawa: 36-35-11 (83 points), 217 goals for, 237 goals against

Now, take into account that Ottawa is likely losing its perennial 50 goal threat and is replacing it with 36 year old basketcase Alex Kovalev (2009: 26 goals).

So, yeah, I really see it. Montreal? Playoff talent. Ottawa? Playoff talent. Buffalo? No playoff talent. Makes sense.
